Week 4 Fourm

Be complete and provide context when photographing or recording subjects. Avoid stereotyping individuals and groups. Recognize and work to avoid presenting one's own biases in the work.

This code stands out to me because it covers some of the most important parts, as well as one of the one that seem to be broken most often. If all Journalism photos can remove bias and avoid stereotypes people would be much more believing in photos. Obviously its impossible to complete remove these from all photos as some symptoms are from the sub-conscious, but it would definitely help.

Avoid Political, Civic and business involvements or other employment that compromise or give the appearance of compromising one's own journalistic independence.

This feeds off the back of why I think the other code is so important. By keeping yourself away from biases you can at the same time help keep yourself from forming them simply through obligations.

What I really like about Leta's photo here that, obviously its a close up, but on top of that, she shot the photo at the right angle that the details of the ceramic item was captured. Now, and maybe this is a stretch for some people, but for me I think the ceramic's detail is contrast to the blandness of the person. That's not to call out the person's appearance, the photo was shot to where her eyes were covered by her hair, there's a lack of defining features, so she appears generic.

First I like that outdoors on what appears a sunny day, there's no shadows or glares in the image. All the right boxes are ticked with focus on the correct subjects that are looking at each other. The most unique part i enjoyed was the near parrelle arms between the boy reaching up and the man down.
